On an Island with Garrett Kendel, King Rose Visuals

New year, new blog. Island is kicking off another year of guest blogs, featuring some majorly talented people in Saskatoon. Today we are On an Island with Garrett Kendel, owner of King Rose Visuals. Island started working with Garrett last summer during the Nutrien Wonderhub project and haven’t stopped collaborating since. This uber-talented photographer, videographer and drone pilot does it all. Not only does he have the skills behind the camera,  he might also be one of the nicest guys you can work with. Sit back and enjoy this year’s first instalment of “On an Island” with King Rose Visuals.

Island: Tell us about King Rose Visuals.

King Rose Visuals: King Rose Visuals is my passion, it’s my creative outlet through photography and videography.

Island: Why is photography important to consider when creating or redesigning your website?

We’re told not to judge a book by its cover…but we do.

KR: When creating or redesigning your website, photography is important because it’s your first impression. It’s how you want to represent yourself. We’re told not to judge a book by its cover…but we do.

Island: Why is videography important to consider when creating or redesigning your website?

KR: People always want to see more. Videography can be a great asset to your website. It can really pull someone in and it takes your marketing to another level.

Island: Why can’t I just use stock images for my website?

KR: Stock images can give inaccurate perception. Having original content gives the audience or customer a better reality into what they are getting.

Island: My phone takes pretty good pictures, can’t I just save money by doing them myself?

KR: Phones can take great pictures, but not everyone knows how to take a great picture. There are a lot of different factors that go into a great photo like lighting, angles, depth of field etc. Even though phones can take good photos. They are still not at the level of a professional DSLR or Mirrorless camera.

Island: Where does your website and digital presence fit within the success of your business?

KR: Having an online presence is pretty much essential for any business in today’s market. Being able to showcase my work through my website and social media to anyone in the world is pretty amazing.

Island: If you could give one piece of advice to someone thinking about creating or revamping their website, what would it be?

KR: Get help from a graphic designer. A clean logo and website design can go a long way to help you stand out. If it’s in the budget, professional photos/video can grab a persons attention and give them a real sense of professionalism.

Island: If you were stranded on an island, what is the one thing you couldn’t live without?

KR: If I was stranded on an island, the one thing I couldn’t live without would be my camera. If you can’t prove that you were there, did it really happen?
